First Mennonite conference on Occupy plus The American Spring
I'm grateful to Tim for getting interviews with most of the keynote speakers, to get some of their thoughts on the Occupy movement and how this conference is related (or not). It also announces the fact that we just added as a presenter, Paulette Moore, a friend and teacher of mine here at EMU who also happens to be one of the lead organizers of the local Occupy Harrisonburg (@OccupyHburg) group.
My only quibble with the piece (and it's a small one) is that it characterizes the conference as being "Mennonite." Co-organizer, Aaron Kauffman, and I have favored using "Anabaptist" throughout the planning process to reflect the "big tent" nature of not only the conference but the planners themselves, as Aaron is Mennonite and I am Brethren (though it's safe to say I'm pretty Mennonite, too, at this point). But this is being held by two students at a Mennonite seminary in a Mennonite university connected to a Mennonite denomination. So to call the conference "Mennonite" is definitely not a stretch.
Thanks, Tim!
